Lumentum Holdings (LITE): Pullback Creates an Opportunity in AI Optical Networking

Not every AI winner is a chipmaker. We believe Lumentum Holdings (LITE) offers investors another way to benefit from the continued buildout of AI infrastructure.

The company specializes in optical and photonic technologies that help power high-speed data transmission, making its products an important part of the rapidly expanding AI ecosystem. While the stock has already been a standout performer this year, a recent pullback may have created an attractive buying opportunity.

Shares have nearly doubled in 2026, significantly outperforming the broader market. However, the stock has declined about 18% over the past three months as some investors questioned whether demand for AI-related optical technologies would remain as strong as previously expected.

We believe those concerns may be overdone.

The underlying demand drivers for Lumentum’s transceivers and laser technologies remain intact, supported by ongoing investment in AI infrastructure. While questions have emerged around the timing of broader adoption of co-packaged optics, the company’s long-term growth outlook appears unchanged.

The upcoming earnings season could also help shift investor focus back toward those fundamentals. Rather than concentrating solely on quarterly results, we think investors will be paying close attention to industry commentary around wafer allocation, memory availability and any updates to the long-term total addressable market for AI infrastructure. Those developments could have a greater impact on semiconductor stocks than whether companies simply beat quarterly estimates.

Lumentum is scheduled to report fiscal fourth-quarter earnings on Aug. 11, giving investors an important catalyst in the weeks ahead.

The stock trades around $733 per share. Barclays recently upgraded the stock to Overweight while maintaining its $1,000 price target, implying roughly 36% upside from recent levels.

The broader analyst community is also constructive. According to LSEG data, 22 of the 27 analysts covering the company rate the stock either Buy or Strong Buy. The average Wall Street price target stands at approximately $1,100, representing about 50% upside from current levels.

After a strong run earlier this year, Lumentum has experienced a healthy correction despite what appears to be an unchanged long-term growth story. With solid AI infrastructure fundamentals, an upcoming earnings catalyst and broad support from Wall Street, we believe the recent weakness offers investors an opportunity to accumulate shares before sentiment improves.
